Long ago, the Ozark Mountain plateau was the bottom of a great seabed. With time and the effects of wind and water erosion, a landscape of rivers, bluffs, caves, and grottoes was created. The Ozark landform is quite similar to the canyon country of the Southwestern United States. But the Ozarks have deciduous trees and and perennial rivers and creeks.
